ABSTRACT SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
The oral presentation and poster sessions are an essential part of the ICAN Conference Series that encourages interaction and the exchange of ideas amongst meeting participants. Valid abstracts are subject to the following requirements and conditions.
Abstracts are invited on any relevant topics to cardiovascular, metabolic and nutritional health and disease, from fundamental research to clinical studies to translational research
Abstracts must be submitted via email to icanseries(at)ican-institute.org as either .doc or .docx files.
PDF files will NOT be accepted.
The last deadline is 7 November 2019, 5pm CET.
Abstracts must be in English
Title – 100 characters maximum, spaces included
Authors – example format: Marie DUPONT¹. Please underline the presenting author
Author Affiliations – numbered, please include unit or department, hospital or research center, city and country.
Abstract text – maximum 2500 characters, including spaces and subtitles. Please include the following four subtitles: Context and Objectives, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Keywords – up to five
Use standard abbreviations only. If you need to use special abbreviations, enclose them in parentheses just after the complete and unabridged expression appears for the first time
Use generic names of drugs
Numbers and numbers must be written in numeric format
Please note that abstracts must show original work and results
At the end of your abstract, please indicate whether you wish to be considered for an oral and/or poster, and whether you are eligible for a young investigator prize.
- Submitting an abstract does not constitute or guarantee registration
Authors may only submit one abstract, but the submitting author can co-author other abstracts
Abstracts are published by the ICAN Conference Series in a non-accredited journal (the “abstract book”) given to all conference attendees. After the conference, copies of the abstract book may be provided to other interested parties on request, and are available for purchase.
Abstract submission implies consent for abstract publication in the abstract book and consent to the ICAN Conference Series Terms of Service
Abstract content and editing are the sole responsibilities of the submitting author
Abstracts will be published as received
Abstracts not selected for oral presentation will receive a poster presentation
Poster presenters will be invited to take part in the Poster Blitz (a fun, non-judged, 1 minute oral presentation to the audience to entice them to attend the poster sessions)
Submitting an abstract does not alter the registration rate
Poster Display Guidelines
Posters should not be larger than A0 size (84.1 cm wide x 118.9 cm tall)
Oversized posters cannot be accommodated
Laminate your poster if possible for greater durability
If at all possible, bring your poster with you rather than shipping it to the venue to avoid potential shipping delays and additional handling fees. If you do ship your poster to the venue, please address your poster to yourself as a guest.
ABSTRACT REVIEWING CRITERIA
Please note that abstracts will be reviewed by cardiometabolic & nutrition disease specialists, who may not be specialists in your field. So to keep your chances of selection high, make sure you can clearly express your research results.
Reviewers will take into consideration the following aspects: relevance to the meeting topic, the significance of the scientific questions and results, the style, the organization, the clarity of the question or hypothesis, clear and sufficient background, clear rationale for the scientific approach, reasonable interpretation and conclusions.
If your abstract is selected for an oral or poster presentation, you will receive notification early November 2018.
